Dadawa
b. Zhu Zheqin, c.1972, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. After studying to be a teacher, Dadawa decided on a career as a singer after winning a television talent show. Taken up by music professor He Xuntian, an expert in Tibetan music, she drew her repertoire from an amalgam of Tibetan forms, contemporary Western smooth R&B and techno pop. She attracted attention from the early 90s and a tour with the Chieftains extended awareness of her talent and her popularity spread. She hosted the documentary Into Africa, which was made for Chinese television.
