The Creatures
This on-off collaboration between Siouxsie And The Banshees members Siouxsie Sioux (b. Susan Janet Ballion, 27 May 1957, London, England, although she also uses Susan Dallion) and drummer/percussionist Budgie (b. Peter Edward Clarke, 21 August 1957, St. Helens, Lancashire, England) won them a string of UK hits starting with "Mad Eyed Screamer" (number 24, October 1981) and "Miss The Girl" (number 21, April 1983) - both achieving Top 30 status. Their greatest success came with Herbie Mann and Carl Sigman's swing composition, "Right Now' which reached number 14 in the UK chart in July 1983. Away from the more rock-orientated constraints of the parent group, the Creatures allowed Budgie to experiment with exotic percussive instruments and give the sound a freer, more expressive feel. Conceived primarily as a studio-only set-up, the Creatures did not make their live debut until 1990. The following year the long-time romantic partners were finally married. Following the Banshees" initial dissolution in 1996, Siouxsie and Budgie continued to record as the Creatures, releasing Anima Animus on their own Sioux label in 1999.
