Mark Morrison
b.12 May 1974, Hanover, Germany. Although the swingbeat or urban R&B sound of R. Kelly, SWV, TLC and others had made a huge impression among British record buyers, until the breakthrough of Mark Morrison in 1995 the UK had failed to provide a credible domestic alternative. The German-born Morrison had grown up in Leicester and Palm Beach, Florida, and was thus better disposed to adopt the style than most. His debut single, 1995's "Crazy", saw him announce himself as the "UK King of Swing", and brought immediate chart success. His irresistible March 1996 single "Return Of The Mack" was highly derivative of his American peers in style, language and content, but gave him a UK chart-topper and spent several weeks in the US Top 5. A re-released "Crazy" also broke into the UK Top 10. It was followed by an album of the same title which was co-produced with Phil Chill and featured three further UK Top 10 singles, "Trippin'", "Horny", and "Moan & Groan".
