Falco
One of the more memorable acts of 1980s dance-pop, Austrian singer Falco (Johann Hölzel) integrated light keyboard-driven funk, off-kilter lyrics, and a flamboyant singing/speaking style that reflected the concurrent growing interest in hip-hop. In a twist, one of his best known songs, 1983's "Der Kommissar," was a bigger hit for the band After the Fire that same year. He is also marked by the international chart-topper, the simple and naggingly catchy synth-rap concoction "Rock Me Amadeus." After a full decade (1982 - 1992) of recording original albums, Falco took a break while several greatest-hits packages surfaced. Sadly, just as he was beginning a career comeback in 1998, he was killed in a car accident.
