Victor Calderone
b. Brooklyn, New York, USA. Calderone's passion for dance music began in the mid-80s when he saw Jellybean spinning records at the Fun House in New York. Making tentative steps into the music industry, Calderone recorded as part of the techno duo Program 2, releasing a couple of singles on the influential Belgian label, R&S Records. An EP later appeared on the short-lived Vortex Records. In the mid-90s, Calderone adopted a more pronounced house style, and completed work on the club anthem "Give It Up". The track came to the attention of A&R staff at 8 Ball Records who began plugging the record in clubs. The track gained rapid exposure and topped several dance charts in early 1997. Calderone built on its success to establish his own DJing reputation on the New York gay circuit, while a follow-up single, "Beat Me Harder", became another huge dance hit later in the year. Calderone also gained high exposure residencies at the Liquid Club in Miami, and the Roxy back in New York. In 1998, he was commissioned to remix Madonna's "Frozen". The track became a huge dance hit and led to subsequent work with the singer on tracks from her acclaimed Ray Of Light, and commissions from artists including Sting, Gloria Estefan and Garbage. Later in the year, Calderone collaborated with Peter Rauhofer (aka Club 69) on a remix of the Clivill‚s And Cole house classic, "Do It Properly", featuring vocals by club diva Deborah Cooper. Calderone also signed a multi-album deal with Tommy Boy Records, releasing the remix collection E=VC2 in October 1999.
