British guitar hero Chris Rea may be heavily influenced by American blues, but curiously the U.S. is one of the few places where he hasn't achieved star status. Across Europe, he's widely known for his searing blues-rock guitar style, deep gravelly vocals, and songs that range from dark and moody rock to amiably radio-friendly pop. He was even the recipient of a remixing treatment that brought him a dance-club hit in 2000. His latter-day material, however, found him embracing his beloved blues roots once more.
