Cheryl Wheeler
b. 10 July 1951, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Wheeler was raised in Timonium, Maryland, and has been playing guitar since she was 10 years old. One of her first jobs was singing in a restaurant and working as a waitress - at the same time. In the late 70s, she was a familiar figure in the Newport folk clubs. Her first album was produced by singer-songwriter Jonathan Edwards and she played bass and sang harmony in his road band. That album also features the Saddle Sores, a vocal group led by Mary-Chapin Carpenter. Wheeler's sister told her about her love life ("I'm addicted to a bad thing"), which prompted the song "Addicted", a US country number 1 for Dan Seals. Since then, Juice Newton has recorded "I'm Only Walking", Maura O'Connell "Summer Fly", Suzy Bogguss both "Aces" (another US country hit) and "Don't Wanna", and Christine Lavin both "On A Winter's Night" and "When Fall Comes To New England". Wheeler is a witty concert performer and her songs include the zany "TV" and the grim humour of "Estate Sale", which shows the poignancy of her work. She appeared in the UK at the 1991 Cambridge Folk Festival. "Orbiting Jupiter', from 1993"s Driving Home, was co-written with Janis Ian.

I love Cheryl Wheeler and Patty Larkin...I'd forgotten just how much...since leaving New England...and living in New Orleans..it's just a whole different music scene... not that I don't love this scene too!!
