Moodswings
Formed by indie stalwarts JFT "Fred' Hood, a drummer and friend of Johnny Marr (Smiths), plus producer Grant Showbiz (the Fall, Smiths), this was still a decidedly house-aimed project. They first interceded in the dance scene with the release of 1990"s "Spiritual High", a cover of the Diana Ross song with additional lyrics interspersed from the Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows", with vocals from Chrissie Hynde. After appearing on a blue label it was snapped up by Zoom before Arista gave it a big push and stock release in 1991. However, instead of building on the acclaim they slaved over their debut album for five years before release.
