b. 10 November 1958, Statesboro, Georgia, USA. Folk blues singer-songwriter Williams' style combines a laid-back vocal alongside strong guitar patterns, occasionally using bottleneck. He began learning violin at three-years-old, moving on to guitar at the age of 10. It was not until his late teens that he started songwriting. He left his job as a teacher in 1986, and moved to Massachusetts, to take up music on a full-time basis. Beginning with appearances in colleges, bars and restaurants, he performed guest spots for such performers as Taj Mahal, David Bromberg, Maria Muldaur and the Band, especially in the north-eastern area of the USA. North From Statesboro produced a flood of good reviews, and national airplay, bringing Williams to a wider audience. In August 1990, Williams was featured in an article on slide guitar players in Acoustic Guitar magazine. His follow-up album, How The Night-Time Sings, released in 1991 and the excellent Knife Edge in 1995 both consolidated Williams' position. A string of excellent singer-songwriter albums on the Green Linnet Records label followed in the late 90s, while 2000's Little Lion showcased Williams' virtuoso guitar work. He returned to singer-songwriter mode on the quality follow-ups Skiffle-Bop and Nectar.
