Kathy Mattea
West Virginian Kathy Mattea is a folk- and bluegrass-influenced artist who fit most comfortably into the country charts of the '80s, which at the time were welcoming artists with stripped-down sounds and progressive bents. Mattea's warm, rich alto voice, applied to some of the finest songs written in Nashville at that time, brought her great success from 1986 to the early '90s.
