Deadly Snakes
Formed in Toronto in 1996, this Canadian indie rock band spent the better part of the next decade earning critical plaudits but selling hardly any records, a factor that ultimately led to their demise. The original line-up comprised Andr‚ St. Clair (b. Andr‚ Ethier, Canada; vocals/guitar), Matthew Carlson (trumpet/harmonica), Yuri Didrichsons (bass), Andrew Gunn (drums), Carson Binks (saxophone), and the Age Of Danger (b. Max McCabe-Lokos; vocals/keyboards). James Sayce had replaced Didrichsons by the time the sextet signed a contract with the Sympathy For The Recording Industry label. Their fusion of blues, soul and garage punk fairly exploded out of the speakers on 1999's Love Undone, earning comparisons to both the Rolling Stones and the Stooges.
