Melba Moore
b. Melba Hill, 29 October 1945, New York City, New York, USA. The daughter of singer Bonnie Davis, the New York-based Moore first attracted attention in the 1969 Broadway production of Hair. Although she continued her thespian inclinations, winning a Tony Award for her performance in the musical Purlie, Moore also forged a successful singing career. "This Is It", a minor US hit, reached the UK Top 10 in 1976, and although her pop chart placings were inconsistent, she remained a fixture on the R&B lists over the following decade. Her first notable success of the 80s was in 1982 with the US Top 5 R&B hit "Love's Comin' At Ya", which also broke into the UK Top 20. Further hits followed with "Livin' For Your Love", "Love The One I'm With (A Lot Of Love)', and 1986"s chart-topping duet with Freddie Jackson, "A Little Bit More". The same year's "Falling" repeated the success, and Moore enjoyed further Top 10 hits with "It's Been So Long", "Lift Every Voice And Sing", and "Do You Really Want My Love".
