b. Christopher Dorsey, 3 September 1980, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. This New Orleans-based rapper's prodigious output saw him rack up four albums for the city's Cash Money Records label before he turned 18 years old. The B.G. (aka Baby Gangsta) signed to Cash Money at the age of 11, having been inspired to start rapping by the unsolved murder of his father on the streets of New Orleans. He enjoyed strong word of mouth sales in his local area, as like many southern rappers his records were denied widespread exposure on mainstream radio. His albums, beginning with 1993's autobiographical True Story, documented the gangsta/playa lifestyle favoured by New Orleans' rappers, allied to smooth G-funk backing tracks that echoed the sound of the city's other leading rap label, No Limit Records. The prolific rapper also appeared alongside labelmates Juvenile, Lil Wayne and Young Turk as a member of the Hot Boy$, who debuted with 1997's Get It How U Live!!
