finetune artist: Moloko

This curious UK-based duo featured singer R¢is¡n Murphy (b. 5 July 1973, Arklow, Eire) and multi-instrumentalist Mark Brydon (b. Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, England). Embracing a sense of kitsch drama reminiscent of Deee-Lite and mid-period Human League, their 1995 debut album was actually recorded in a studio adjacent to the latter band's regular base in Sheffield. By this time they had already recorded two singles, "Where Is The What If The What Is The Why" and "Fe Fi Fo Fun For Me", which both impressed with their cultured electro pop textures and weird lyrical narratives. Entirely self-composed and produced, other delights on their debut album rejoiced in titles such as "Killer Bunnies". Do You Like My Tight Sweater? included some entertaining artwork and the very bizarre "Cheeky Monkey". Both partners had previous diverse experiences in the music industry; Murphy with the strangely named performance art group And Turquoise Car Crash, The, and Brydon with acid jazz act Cloud 9.
