Todd Terry
During the late `80s, DJ/producer Todd Terry charted house music's stylistic shift away from synth & drum machine-based productions to the sampladelic cut-and-paste aesthetic favored in hip-hop. Terry released his frenetic, breakbeat-driven productions under a myriad of aliases (Black Riot, Gypsymen, Royal House), and his deft production chops eventually seeped into the `90s pop mainstream on a spate of high-profile remixes for mega-superstar artists like Janet Jackson and Bjork. But it was his bumping deep house rework of Everything But the Girl's "Missing" that sealed his iconic status within the global club music culture. While his career as a remixer waned into the new millennium, he has since tried his hand at producing drum & bass, as well as more song-oriented fare.
