Cajmere
b. Curtis Alan Jones, 26 April 1967, Chicago, Illinois, USA. The house music artist Cajmere, with vocalist Dajae (real name Karen), first broke through in 1993 with the club hits "Brighter Days" and the ragtime-themed "U Got Me Up". Cajmere abandoned his degree course to pursue his musical ambitions, and, establishing himself among local house music producers, he soon cut his first tracks, including "The Percolator". Influenced by the UK's A Guy Called Gerald as much as by Chicago house music, he settled on a successful combination of diva-style vocals and "breakdowns". Before working with Dajae, he was best known for his collaboration with Lidell Townsell on "Get With You", plus the Underground Goodies EP for Clubhouse. He also remixed "Feel It' for Italians Workin" Happily. He runs Cajual Records, and its offshoot Relief, on which he aimed to develop new talent. He has recorded artists including Dajae, DJ Sneak, Gemini and Boo Williams, and 12-inch singles such as "Preacherman', which owe an obvious debt to one of his idols, Lil" Louis.
