Bad Azz
b. Long Beach, California, USA. This west coast rapper, about whom little biographical information is known, is better known as a guest vocalist and lyricist for hire than for his solo work. After making his name on the fertile Long Beach rap scene, Bad Azz made his recording debut as part of the L.B.C. crew on the cut "Beware Of My Crew', which featured on 1996"s gold-selling A Thin Line Between Love & Hate soundtrack. A solo recording contract with Snoop Doggy Dogg's Doggy Style Records proved abortive, but Bad Azz continued to build his reputation with guest vocal slots on albums by west coast rappers including Snoop Doggy Dogg, 2Pac and Warren G., and further soundtrack work. He signed a new recording contract with Priority Records and released his solo debut, Word On Tha Street, in autumn 1998. Despite remaining true to the popular west coast G-funk blueprint, the album was a notable commercial failure. The belated follow-up adopted a more club-orientated sound while lyrically remaining true to the creeds of gangsta rap.
