Tamia
b. Tamia Washington, 9 May 1976, Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This urban R&B balladeer made several high-profile singing appearances in her native Canada before relocating to Los Angeles in 1994. Her career break came the same year, when she was featured on two Grammy-nominated singles by veteran Quincy Jones, "You Put A Move On My Heart" and "Slow Jams", the latter a duet with Babyface. Another Grammy nomination followed in 1995 when she appeared with Brandy, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight on "Missing You' from the Set It Off soundtrack. Washington made her acting debut in 1997, making a cameo appearance as Sheri Silver in Speed 2: Cruise Control. She also completed recording sessions for her eagerly anticipated debut for Jones" Qwest label. Despite receiving positive reviews, the album's commercial performance failed to live up to expectations and the singer was dropped by Qwest.
