Acid Bath
Cult Kenner, Louisiana, USA-based sludge metal outfit fronted by Dax Riggs (b. 15 October 1973, Evansville, Indiana, USA; vocals), whose brooding music reflected the atmosphere of the swamplands. Formed in 1991 by Riggs, Mike Sanchez (guitar), Sammy Pierre Duet (guitar), Audie Pitre (b. 5 October 1970, USA, d. 23 January 1997, USA; bass) and Jimmy Kyle (drums), the band's demo tape Hymns Of The Needle Freak landed them a recording contract with the California independent Rotten Records. The band's material exhibited a strong affection for the underworld and, particularly, the art of the serial killer: their 1995 album debut When The Kite String Pops, produced by D.R.I. guitarist Spike Cassidy, featured a painting by mass murderer John Wayne Gacy on its cover. Its title was described by Riggs as describing "the state of mind you get to when you're high - the point where you're capable of just floating away from whatever connects you to the world'. Their second long-player, 1996"s Paegan Terrorism Tactics, featured a painting by suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian. The band's career ground to a halt with the death of Pitre in a car accident. Riggs and Sanchez teamed up again in Agents Of Oblivion, while Duet joined Crowbar and inaugurated his own project, Goatwhore.
