MICK Hucknall
b. 8 June 1960, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Although his work as leader of UK band Simply Red has been much maligned over the years, there is no denying Hucknall possesses one of the best blue-eyed soul voices of recent times. Following a brief flirtation with punk in the late 70s with the Frantic Elevators, Hucknall led Simply Red to major commercial success through the next three decades. By the early 00s, the band was essentially Hucknall and whichever session musicians joined him for recording and live work. During this period, Hucknall decided to break away from major record companies, securing a bank loan against his house and studio and setting up his own company with manager Ian Grenfell. The move proved a successful one, with Simplyred.com becoming the launching pad for a succession of hit Simply Red albums.
