Bill Champlin
b. 21 May 1947. Champlin (vocals, guitar, keyboards) was a founder-member of the Opposite Six and Masterbeats, two struggling groups active in Marin County, California, USA, between 1964 and 1966. By 1967 the Masterbeats had become known as the Sons Of Champlin, a hippie/soul group which became a popular attraction in the Bay Area. The group split up briefly in 1970, during which time Champlin played in the Rhythm Dukes with Jerry Miller and Don Stevenson of Moby Grape. The Sons Of Champlin re-formed in 1971 and remained together for a further six years. Champlin's solo albums continued the melodic, sweet soul style of his former group. They were not a commercial success and in 1982 he joined Chicago in place of Donnie Dacus.
