Based in Miami, Florida, this youthful US heavy metal band was formed by Gabriel Garcia (vocals/guitar), Alex Nu¤ez (guitar), Zachary Sandler (bass), and Steven Spence (drums). Garcia and Nu¤ez began jamming together in 2004, when they were 10 and 13 years old respectively, and formed the band Radio with Sandler (14) and Spence (15) shortly afterwards. After a name change to Black Tide, the quartet's youthful precocity secured them a recording contract with Atlantic Records. Despite their age they were allowed to play local clubs and quickly built up a following, leading to an invitation to play on the prestigious Ozzfest. By now the quartet had switched to the Interscope Records label and began work on their debut album with producer Johnny K. Released at the start of 2008, Light From Above was an enjoyable if highly derivative collection that owed an obvious debt to the late 80s glam metal scene.
