Drive Like Jehu
Although they were slightly more aggressive and their hardcore roots noticeably prevalent, the early 90s outfit Drive Like Jehu is often credited as being one of a handful of bands that helped open the door for the subsequent emo (emotional hardcore) movement in the USA. Formed in San Diego, California, USA, the quartet was formed in 1990 by Rick Froberg aka Rick Farr (vocals/guitar, ex-Pitchfork), John Reis (guitar, ex-Pitchfork), Mike Kennedy (bass), and Mark Trombino (drums). With the focus of the alternative rock scene at the time being Seattle, Drive Like Jehu quietly carved their own niche and original sound with cult classic releases, 1991's Drive Like Jehu and 1994's Yank Crime, the latter of which was a major label release. Disappointingly, Drive Like Jehu split up shortly thereafter before getting a shot at breaking through to a wider audience. After their break up, Reis went on to front Rocket From The Crypt, while Trombino became a much in demand producer/engineer for a variety of rock outfits. In 2002, Yank Crime was reissued with several bonus tracks not included on the original version.
