Formed in 1985, British band Carcass came to be regarded as a seminal grindcore metal outfit. Founding guitarist Bill Steer joined Napalm Death simultaneous with kicking off Carcass, but quit the former after Carcass' acclaimed 1988 debut album. Following 1993's HEARTWORK, Columbia signed the band, but disagreements with the label led to the end of both the deal and the band by the time the ironically titled SWANSONG was finally released in 1996. However, Carcass eventually reunited in 2008 for a worldwide tour.
