finetune artist: James Lee Stanley

b. 30 April 1946, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Stanley recorded for LeGrand Records when aged only 14. He gained a degree in music and served in the US air force as a Chinese linguist. Working as a singer-songwriter, he opened shows for Bonnie Raitt, Robin Williams, Bill Cosby and, for three years, Steven Wright. The warmth and humour of his stage act can be heard in Live, which was nominated for a Grammy. 1988's Simpatico, a Latin-American experiment, was also nominated for a Grammy. Stanley loved Tom Robbins' novel Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, and wrote a series of songs about the characters. Robbins endorsed the album and contributed to the title cut. Rodney Crowell has since written a song of the same title and the film's score was by k.d. lang. Stanley often tours as a duo with Peter Tork of the Monkees and produced Tork's album Stranger Things Have Happened.
