Cordelia's Dad
While in the UK bands such as the Men They Couldn't Hang and more particularly the Pogues had broken new ground in revitalising folk music, by the late 80s in America no such development had taken place - the perception of the genre seemingly limited to the singer-songwriter institution. However, alongside We Saw The Wolf and Bedlam Rovers, Cordelia's Dad soon helped reposition expectations, borrowing liberally from the hardcore dynamics of Hsker D and the Replacements to propel songs drawn directly from the folk tradition.
