b. 1 September 1946, Douglas, Isle Of Man, British Isles. Gibb first came to prominence as a member of the Bee Gees in 1967. Generally regarded as the best looking of the brood, he proved surprisingly reluctant to branch out into any serious solo ventures of his own. When the group fell out in the late 60s and Robin Gibb briefly pursed a solo career, Barry preferred to keep the Bee Gees name in conjunction with brother Maurice. A one off single, "I'll Kiss Your Memory", was issued in 1970 but it was poorly promoted and did not distract Barry from the group venture. Although the remarkable success of the Bee Gees was enough to keep most artists in full-time work, Gibb decided to extend his work load in the late 70s. He contributed vocals to Samantha Sang's US hit "Emotion" and this encouraged a series of duets with major artists. A highly successful collaboration with Barbra Streisand resulted in the smash hit "Guilty" and this was followed by an equally attractive duet with Dionne Warwick on the ballad "Heartbreaker". Toward the end of 1984 Gibb finally released his debut solo album Now Voyager, which spawned the hit "Shine Shine". While preparing for the Bee Gees return in the late 80s, he found time to release a novelty disc "We Are The Bunburys" under the group pseudonym the Bunburys. An accomplished producer and superb harmony singer, Gibb's multifarious talents and hit-making abilities extend far beyond his more famous work as a member of the Bee Gees.
