Lotus Eaters
Rising from the ashes of the Wild Swans, Liverpool, England's Lotus Eaters enjoyed instant commercial success with a fragrant pop song, "The First Picture Of You", their debut single reaching UK number 15 in July 1983. Revolving around Peter Coyle (vocals) and Jem Kelly (guitar), plus Alan Wills (drums), Gerard Quinn (keyboards) and Phil (bass), the rhythm section was later replaced by Michael Dempsey (bass) and Steve Creese (drums). However, the band never managed to regain their Top 20 status, despite four catchy follow-ups; "You Don't Need Someone New" later in 1983, "Set Me Apart" and "Out On Your Own" (both 1984) and a final attempt, "It Hurts" (1985). Those who appreciate well-crafted, quality melodic pop should look no further than their debut album, No Sense Of Sin. Coyle and Kelly later reactivated the Wild Swans but were again unable to sustain significant interest. They made a surprise return to the studio in the new millennium to record a second Lotus Eaters album, Silentspace.
