Kany Garcia
b. Encarnita Garc¡a, 1982, Toa Baja, Puerto Rico. Latin pop singer-songwriter Garc¡a was raised on the north coast of Puerto Rico in the town of Toa Baja. Singing from an early age she was encouraged to perform by her Spanish father, and began pursuing a music career in earnest after leaving college. In 2004, she competed in the first season of the televised talent contest Objeitvo Fama but her involvement was curtailed by a serious car accident. Following her recovery, Garc¡a signed a publishing deal and began touting her songs around other artists. These included the eventual winner of Objetivo Fama, fellow Puerto Rican Janina, Mexican duo Sin Bandera, and popular Venezuelan singer Franco De Vita. Now firmly back in the folds of the music business, Garc¡a secured a solo recording contract with Sony BMG. She collaborated with De Vita on several tracks from her 2007 debut, Cualquier Dia. The album was a pleasing departure from the Latin pop blueprint, with healthy doses of country and rock thrown into the mix, and Garc¡a's sensual vocals adding a welcome adult edge to the songs.
