Gorilla Zoe
b. Alonzo Mathis, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. This Atlanta-based rapper achieved his first break at the start of 2006 when he was brought in to replace Young Jeezy in the successful gangsta rap crew Boyz N Da Hood. A like-for-like replacement, his gruff drawl and lyrical obsession with drugs and hustling was barely distinguishable from his predecessor. Gorilla Zoe made his debut on the group's follow-up, Back U N Da Chevy, released to general critical indifference in August 2007. Relishing his moment in the spotlight, he concurrently appeared on Yung Joc's Hustlenomic$ and made his solo bow with Welcome To The Zoo. This dispiritingly one-tracked album had few redeeming features.
