Kitschy all-girl pop trio the Pipettes burst on to the UK indie scene like a breath of polka-dotted, beehived fresh air in 2006. The three women were fuelled by a fascination with 1950s outfits, girl-group harmonies, and Phil Spector-on-a-shoestring productions and arrangements, filtering it all through the raw energy and wry knowing of the '90s riot-grrrl scene. Their keen pop instincts, however, prevented their full-length debut, WE ARE THE PIPETTES, from disappearing down a novelty cul-de-sac.
