Formed in 1996, this Los Angeles, California-based indie rock band has been led from the outset by singer-songwriter Aaron Espinoza. He has been joined on the band's recordings by a lengthy list of musicians, including Solon Bixler (guitar), Joel Graves (guitar), Davey Latter (drums) and Ariana Murray (bass/vocals). Taking the title of his band from the small Californian town of the same name, Espinoza and Earlimart made their recording debut in 1999 on the Devil In The Woods label. Filthy Doorways was a peculiar mix of noise pop and Pixies-style alternative rock but with little wit and originality on show. The follow-up, Kingdom Of Champions, was more coherent, mixing crunching punk pop with both quieter (the title track) and louder (the almost thrash-metal "Cabin Fever") passages.
