finetune artist: Traveling Wilburys

This extraordinary supergroup was formed in 1988 by accident as Nelson Wilbury aka George Harrison (b. 25 February 1943, Liverpool, Merseyside, England, d. 29 November 2001, Los Angeles, California, USA) was in Los Angeles and attempted to make a new solo album, after enlisting the production talent of Otis Wilbury aka Jeff Lynne (b. 30 December 1947, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England). At short notice initially only Lucky Wilbury aka Bob Dylan's (b. Robert Allen Zimmerman, 24 May 1941, Duluth, Minnesota, USA) garage was available to rehearse in, and over the next few days they moved to record at Dave Stewart's nearby house. Charlie T. Jnr., aka Tom Petty (b. Thomas Earl Petty, 20 October 1950, Gainesville, Florida, USA) and Lefty Wilbury aka Roy Orbison (b. 23 April 1936, Vernon, Texas, USA, d. 6 December 1988, Madison, Tennessee, USA) dropped by and joined in. Buster Sidebury aka Jim Keltner (b. 27 April 1942, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA) was added to play drums (and refrigerator). This wonderful potpourri of stars re-introduced "having a good time" to their vocabulary and the result was not a Harrison solo but the superb debut from the soon to be legendary Traveling Wilburys. The outing proved to be a major success, bringing out the best of each artist and spawning some classic material, notably "Handle With Care", "Last Night" and "Tweeter And The Monkey Man". In particular, this was a marvellous swan song for the legendary Roy Orbison who tragically died soon afterwards. His empty rocking chair and guitar were deliberately used in the video for "End of The Line".
