Click Five
US power pop band formed in the early 00s by Eric Dill (b. Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; vocals/guitar), Joe Guese (b. Denver, Colorado, USA; guitar), Ben Romans (b. Salina, Kansas, USA; keyboards), Ethan Mentzer (b. Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA; bass), and Joey Zehr (b. Indianapolis, Indiana, USA; drums). Guese, Romans, Mentzer and Zehr first teamed up as the Click while studying at the renowned Berklee College Of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After being joined by lead vocalist Dill they changed their name to the Click Five, and set about honing a live act based around matching suits and hairstyles and a sound crafted on classic late 70s/early 80s pop rock records by the Cars and Cheap Trick. The quintet then recorded a two-song demo with Mike Denneen, which featured a track ("Just The Girl") written by an associate of the producer, Adam Schlesinger of the Fountains Of Wayne. The demo earned the band a recording contract with Lava Records, and a US tour with pop starlet Ashlee Simpson helped extend their profile into the all-important teen market. A re-recorded version of "Just The Girl" earned the Click Five a US Top 40 single in August 2005. The attendant Greetings From Imrie House was named after the street in Allston where members of the band lived as students. This snappy power pop collection went some way towards rebuffing cynical critics put off by the "boy band" profile foisted on the group by their record label.
