Juliana Theory
A wave of bands mixing elements of punk and heavy metal spread like wildfire during the late 90s/early 00s, some of which knew when to keep their cool with hopes of crossing over to pop audiences. One such outfit is the Juliana Theory. Formed in 1997 and coming from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, USA, most of its members have been friends since early childhood, Brett Detar (vocals/guitar), Chad Alan (bass), and Joshua Fiedler(guitar), while the others, Joshua Kosker (guitar) and Neil Helbrank (drums) met the others in high school. Beginning as a side project to its members more "serious' other projects, the poppier Juliana Theory soon became their main focus. Signing on with indie label Tooth & Nail, the quintet issued two well received albums, 1999's Understand This Is A Dream and 2000"s Emotion Is Dead, as well as the 2001 EP, Music From Another Room. With their albums selling over 130,000 units in the USA alone (owing to hardcore touring and word of mouth with almost no radio or MTV support). The Juliana Theory signed with Epic Records soon afterwards, and 2002 saw the release of their major label debut, Love, produced by former Talking Heads guitarist Jerry Harrison. The album featured the band's new drummer Josh Walters.
