Ben's Brother
This UK acoustic pop band was formed in 2005 by "Ben's Brother" Jamie Hartman (b. 24 September 1973, London, England), who took the band name from his childhood belief that he was constantly overshadowed by his older brother owing to his academic success and sporting talents. Hartman had been writing songs for many years (with clients including Emma Bunton and Will Young) before forming the band in 2005, which was signed to Relentless Records just a year later. Kiris Houston (keyboards/guitar), Morgan Quaintance (guitar), Dan McKinna (bass) and David Hattee (drums) completed the line-up. In July 2007, the band made their debut with the appropriately named Beta Male Fairytales. The album was a decent collection of uplifting piano-driven rock songs showcasing Hartman's fervent Rod Stewart-like vocals. Songs such as "Rise" and "I Am Who I Am", the latter with the chorus "I am who I am, and you can't change me, I've done what I can, now I'll stand my ground", demonstrated the band's positive "feel good" nature. The album was well received and entered the UK album chart, with the single "Let Me Out" also making the UK Top 40 in summer 2007.
