Jack Savoretti
b. c.1984, England. This artist was one of a number of singer-songwriters to emerge on the UK music scene in the mid-00s, tapping into a lucrative market established at the start of the decade by the success of David Gray, James Blunt and Ray LaMontagne. Savoretti spent his childhood and early teens moving around Europe with his family, which included a spell at an American school in Switzerland. He did not start playing the guitar until he was 16, but despite being a late developer was quickly hooked by the songwriting bug. After playing in a band for a brief period, Savoretti branched out as a guitar-toting singer-songwriter. He was signed to De Angelis Records, the label set up by Natalie Imbruglia's manager Anne Barrett. In 2005, he added guest vocals to two tracks on Shelly Poole's Hard Time For The Dreamer album. His first release, the gentle and insinuatingly melodic ballad "Without", was issued at the end of 2006 and received backing from a number of key UK radio stations. Released at the start of the following year, Between The Minds was a promising debut that adroitly combined the smooth commercialism of Blunt with the heartfelt soulfulness of LaMontagne.
