b. 4 November 1911, Memphis, Tennessee, USA, d. c.60s. Borum learned guitar as a child from his father and Jim Jackson, later adding harmonica, on which he learned much from Noah Lewis. He played in the streets in jug bands, and worked in Mississippi with Garfield Akers, Willie Brown and Robert Johnson. In 1934, he accompanied his fellow Memphians Hattie Hart and Allen Shaw on record for Vocalion, performing four tracks of his own that were not released. After serving in the US Army during World War II he continued to play occasionally, but had largely retired from music until a brief return when he was discovered by blues historian/producer Sam Charters in 1961. This resulted in two albums, an appearance in a documentary film, and concerts. He is reported to have died towards the end of the 60s.
