LMS
In 1992, Denroy Morgan showcased eight of his offspring, Morgan Heritage, at the International Night of the Reggae Sunsplash festival. His winning formula was repeated when he introduced three more of his children to the music business. The trio, raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and Brooklyn, New York, USA, comprises Otiyah "Laza" Morgan (b. 1980), Miriam Morgan (b. 1979) and Noshayah "Shy-Poo" Morgan (b. 1978). The girls originally performed as the Dredz and first came to prominence at Japansplash in 1990. They also performed alongside Morgan Heritage at the aforementioned 1992 Reggae Sunsplash and were signed to MCA Records alongside their older siblings. While Morgan Heritage released Miracle through MCA, the Dredz recording sessions for the same label were never released. Undeterred by this setback the girls recorded a number of specials for the Stone Love crew and enjoyed success in Jamaica with hits such as "Teenage Vibe", "Galong Bad", "Oh My, My, My" and "Here We Go Again". Initially the Dredz comprised Otiyah and Noshayah singing while Miriam (who had successfully pursued a solo career) danced in the background. As a soloist Miriam had recorded a series of R&B-styled hits including, "True Love", "Someone Tell Me", "Vibe Seekers" and the sublime "Always Be There". In 1998, Miriam performed a version of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" in Manhattan with backing vocals provided by her sisters. The audience response led to critical acclaim and Miriam recorded an album, This Life, on AB Disque, a French subsidiary of EMI Records in 1999. Mindful of the kudos bestowed upon the girls their father suggested a change of direction and LMS was formed. The girls combined singing, rapping and the dancehall style to stunning effect. The same year the trio released a combination hit, "Free Education", with Morgan Heritage. Their debut as LMS, Reality Check, featured productions from Donovan Germain, Shocking Vibes and the Morgan family.
