Eberhard Weber
b. 22 January 1940, Stuttgart, Germany. Weber's father taught him the cello from the age of six and he only turned to the bass in 1956. He liked the sound of Bill Haley's records, saw an old stand-up bass hanging on the wall in the school gym and tried it out. He played jazz in his spare time from making television commercials and working as a theatre director and only turned professional in 1972. With Wolfgang Dauner (keyboards) he had played in a trio inspired by the Bill Evans Trio and in Dauner's psychedelic jazz rock band, Etcetera. He worked with the Dave Pike Set and then joined Volker Kriegel's Spectrum, but did not share Kriegel's fascination with rock rhythms and left in 1974.
