The Horrors
Southend punk five-piece, the Horrors, emerged at a time when most U.K. acts were following the angular, abrasive template established by the Arctic Monkeys, the Futureheads, and their ilk. The Horrors, in contrast, offered an energetic revival of the classic garage-punk sound, displaying the marked influence of the Seeds, glam-punk superstars the New York Dolls, and the b-movie camp of the Cramps. Early singles included cover versions of Screaming Lord Sutch's "Jack The Ripper" and the Syndicats' "Crawdaddy Simone."
