Anthony David
b. 4 December 1971, Savannah, Georgia, USA. This singer-songwriter was one of the new wave of acoustic-based R&B/soul singers to emerge from Atlanta, Georgia in the early 00s. David grew up in Savannah, Georgia, and served in the first Gulf War during a spell in the US Army. He moved to Atlanta at the end of the 90s to pursue his dream of becoming a recording artist. While there he teamed up with another budding singer India.Arie, and the duo began writing together and performing on the local soul circuit. When Arie's fortunes rose with a major label contract he worked on her 2001 debut, Acoustic Soul, and joined her backing group on a worldwide tour. The higher profile resulting from the Arie association led to a solo recording contract with the Brash Music label, with David's debut, 3 Chords & The Truth, appearing in 2004. The album attracted a positive response from the US music press, with particular attention paid to David's narrative lyrical approach and gruff soul vocals. The following year he guested on Atlanta rap rock crew El Pus' 2005 release, Hoodlum Rock, Vol. 1. David's The Red Clay Chronicles followed in late 2006.
