b. 3 November 1989, San Angelo, Texas, USA. Born and raised on the Mexican border, DeAnda was one of several Mexican-American pop singers to cross over into the mainstream US charts in the mid-00s. She learned to sing and play the piano at an early age and by her early teens was being pushed by her ambitious parents to become a solo artist. Now based in Corpus Christi, she was talent spotted by producer Happy Perez who helped her record a number of singles. One of these, "Doing Too Much", received extensive airplay on local radio. DeAnda had barely turned 16 when she was signed to J Records after a successful audition for pop svengali Clive Davis. Her debut album was recorded with the help of an experienced group of hit-makers and musicians, including Perez, Baby Bash, Ne-Yo, Stargate, and Natalie Alvarado. A re-recorded version of "Doing Too Much" (featuring Baby Bash) and "Walk Away (Remember Me)" (featuring the DEY) were successful on US radio and the pop charts. Her self-titled debut album featured both singles and several other pleasing urban pop tracks, including a handful of DeAnda co-writes, although like several other major label releases of the same ilk it suffered by default from the involvement of too many outside writers.
