Carlos Paredes
b. 16 February 1925, Coimbra, Portugal, d. 23 July 2004, Lisbon, Portugal. Paredes was the grandson of guitarist Gonalo Paredes and the son of Artur Paredes, who was one of Portugal's masters of the traditional 12-string guitar. Artur Paredes was responsible for creating a new playing style that led him also to redesign certain aspects of the instrument to alter the sound retention and also to enable him to develop a more attacking approach.
