b. Annabelle Short Lynch, 25 July 1930, Mitcham, Surrey, England. Lynch moved to Los Angeles with her aunt, singer Ella Logan, at the age of three. After working as a child actress in Hollywood, she then toured internationally as a singer. She sang with both Tony Crombie and Jack Parnell during the 50s. Ross had recorded successful wordless jazz vocals before becoming a member of the brilliant vocalese trio, Lambert, Hendricks And Ross from 1958-62. Her song "Twisted', written with Wardell Gray, was expertly covered by Joni Mitchell, among others. In the mid-60s Ross operated Annie's Room, a jazz club in London, and in later years worked in films and television as both actress and singer, at one point being briefly reunited with Jon Hendricks. Personal problems affected the continuity of Ross" career but despite the resulting irregularity of her public performances she maintained an enviably high standard of singing. In the early 80s she found a compatible musical partner in Georgie Fame with whom she toured and recorded. In 1993, she appeared in Robert Altman's Short Cuts and performed most of the songs on the attendant soundtrack album.
