Destiny
This Swedish progressive metal band was formed in 1980 by bass player Stefan Bjrnshg (b. 1960, Sweden). Following multiple short-lived line-up changes, the band finally stabilized in 1984 with Bjrnshg plus Magnus sterman (guitar), John Prodn (guitar), Peter Lundgren (drums) and Hkan Ring (vocals). They debuted the following year with Beyond All Sense, which comprised an uninspiring collection of identikit Eurorock numbers. Attracting little media interest, sterman, Prodn and Ring quit the band and were replaced by Jrgen Pettersson (guitar), Floyd Konstantin (guitar, ex-King Diamond) and Zenny Hansson aka Zenny Gram (vocals), respectively. This line-up recorded 1988's Atomic Winter, which was more aggressive and leaned towards the thrash genre. Nevertheless, it fared little better than its predecessor. Konstantin and Pettersson left shortly after the album was recorded, and the band reverted to a four-piece with the addition of Gunnar Kindberg. Destiny, released in 1991, was their finest work to date, but the band continued to remain virtually unknown outside their native Sweden.
