Fusing emo rock and power pop this curiously named act was formed in Buffalo, New York, USA in January 2005 by Shaant Hacikyan (b. 7 November 1986, Westfield, New York, USA; vocals, ex-Cherry Bing) and Jeff Czum (b. Jeffrey Czum, 27 May 1987, Buffalo, New York, USA; guitar/piano, ex-Cherry Bing). On the surface, their ascent ' via the exploitation of Internet sites such as MySpace and PureVolume - from precocious hopefuls to a bona fide, radio-friendly gold-selling indie rock act was a straightforward tale, akin to that of many of their contemporaries. However, the band's many line-up changes coupled with Hacikyan's sharp vision and ruthless reputation ensured that their rise to fame was never less than complicated. The band's preliminary drummer Rob Neiss was swiftly replaced by Tom Falcone (b. Thomas Falcone, 12 April 1986, Buffalo, New York, USA) while a glut of temporary bass players came and went in a short period, including Don Arthur and Jack Marin (b. 4 September 1985, Chicago, Illinois, USA, ex-October Fall), before Falcone's cousin Fred Cimato (b. Ferdinando Salvatore Cimato, 26 June 1988, Buffalo, New York, USA, ex-Ideaframe) settled into this role. Rhythm guitarist Chris Flurry had departed by the time of the sessions for their June 2006 debut, The Same Old Blood Rush With A New Touch. Produced by Matt Squire the record invoked the teenage dilemma-focused alt rock of both Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday. September 2006 saw the unexpected sacking of their manager Brandon Davis, a decision that led to much legal wrangling while key member Cimato had departed by March 2008.
