Zelia Duncan
b. Zlia Cristina, 28 October 1964, Niter¢i, Brazil. Singing and playing guitar from childhood, Duncan first performed professionally in her late teens and early twenties, singing, as Zlia Cristina, with various bands. This was in Bras¡lia and she became quite well known in the nation's capital but when, later in the decade, she decided to launch her solo career she did so in Brazil's music centre, Rio de Janeiro. She made an album Outra Luz that did quite well, but it was not until 1992 that she began to make an impact. When this happened it was not only as a performer but also as a songwriter. It was at this time that Cristina changed her name, adopting her mother's family name for her bestselling 1994 debut for WEA Records.
