Giuffria
This US band was formed in 1981 by Greg Giuffria (keyboards) when his previous band, Angel, split up. His first step was to secure a good rhythm section consisting of Chuck Wright (bass) and Alan Krigger (drums), and David Glen Eisley (vocals). Rough Cutt guitarist Craig Goldy joined after his former group disintegrated. In 1984 Giuffria's self-titled debut album, released on MCA, demonstrated a melodic rock band that sounded symphonic in places and could have been mistaken for Angel on some tracks. Greg Giuffria referred to their music as "cinema rock". After the promotional tour for the album, Goldy left to join Driver and, subsequently, Ronnie James Dio, while Wright returned to session work. They were replaced by Lanny Cordola (guitar) and David Sikes (bass). As a result of these personnel changes, the follow-up album, Silk And Steel, was not released until August 1986. This was very much a continuation of their first album - it did not sell in anything like sufficient quantities and in 1987 MCA dropped the group. Giuffria, Cordola, Wright, Ken Mary (drums) and David Glen Eisley attempted to start again. They gained some support from Gene Simmons of Kiss, who had just set up his own record label. However, Simmons insisted that the name be changed to House Of Lords, and that James Christian should replace Eisley on vocals.
