Danger Doom
A collaboration between two hip-hop heavyweights, DJ Danger Mouse (b. Brian Burton, 29 July 1977, White Plains, New York, USA) and MF Doom (b. Daniel Dumile, 9 January 1971, London, England, but raised in Long Island, New York, USA). Danger Mouse had already flown to stratospheric heights in 2004 with the controversial The Grey Album, which meshed a cappella rhymes from Jay-Z's The Black Album with fragmented samples from the Beatles' The White Album, and as producer of the Gorillaz's second album Demon Days. MF Doom had enjoyed widespread success of his own with Madlib on the Madvillain project. The duo's The Mouse In The Mask received plaudits from across the media spectrum on both sides of the Atlantic, prompting one of the UK's high-class broadsheet newspapers The Sunday Telegraph to state: "This riotously entertaining collaboration . . . stole the hip-hop honours with its blend of deft wordplay and musical inventiveness." The album's seamless blend of original beats, rhymes and comedy samples saw it named as one of the best releases of 2005 by many music journalists.
